James Diego Thompson (1788-1854) was a Scottish Baptist Pastor, and Teaching. == Biography ==
Born 1788 in Scotland, Thompson began his studies at the University of Glasgow. He learned Spanish language, and served as a pastor in a village in Scotland. In 1818, was arrived at the port of Buenos Aires. Thompson was sent by the British and Foreign Bible Society, to carry out the education system created by Joseph Lancaster. Due to the successful implementation of the Lancastrian system, James Thompson was appointed director of schools in Buenos Aires. Thompson was invited by the General José de San Martín to visit the city of Lima, in order to introduce modern education system. In 1821, Thompson was hired by the government of Chile. James Diego Thompson was appointed an honorary citizen of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, for his great contribution to national public education.
